(The following comes from an article by a woman who holds Grandmothers' meetings and ceremonies in her home.)

"A Call to Power: the Grandmothers Speak" is the result of several years of journeys and the marvelous wisdom that has come forth from the Grandmothers, the "Grand Mothers," whom Sharon McErlane identifies as unique "forms of the Divine" that are available and appropriate for our time when the world is so out-of-balance by the depletion of Yin energy. My daughter describes the experience of reading the book, "I can't explain why, but in every sentence I felt like a petal of my heart was invited to open."

I trust the authenticity of The Great Council of Grandmothers, for I had several synchronous events where they made themselves known to me prior to discovering Sharon's book. And, although I have a pretty good life already, their influence is certainly noteworthy in feelings of even greater comfort, love and joy creeping into my normal daily experience. I also trust Sharon's integrity. She is a most humble, sincere woman who is very good at moving into the background to allow others to step up with their own gifts and skills to participate in this "work." There are no costs involved, no hierarchy, no formal organization. The gathering at her home in Laguna Beach last May, for those devoted to offering the ceremonies to others, was homegrown, free, and lovingly proffered. I was deeply touched by the caliber and depth of the women who were called from within to attend this event, arriving from many quarters of the country and other parts of the world. It was a weekend of much prayer, spontaneous singing and joyous laughter. It was a touching, inspiring example of the influence of the Grandmothers and the kind of genuine affection, harmony and joy available to those who attune to them.

"It is time for the world to return to the nurturance, love and comfort of the Mother. Conquest and aggression have been taken as far as they can go without destroying all life... Energy must now turn to supporting life - to greater compassion, greater understanding, to building wisdom rather than to accumulating knowledge... The energy of life must move. There must be new goals now: life affirming, life enhancing goals that deepen the experience of being human. So that the days one lives are good days, valued days, even looked forward to... .Looked forward to because one feels loved. Because one is love."
